Acro-Stars
Acrobatic Troupe
The Acro-Stars
Acrobats were trained by the venerable Hou Chunyan, himself a pupil of the Nanjing
Troupe's world-famous Lu Yi (currently Master Trainer with the San Francisco
School of Circus Arts.) In China the circus is an ancient
tradition, dating back to the Qin Dynasty two hundred years before the birth
of Christ where it was known as "The Hundred Entertainments." Today
circus families are China's most beloved dynasties: the Acro-Stars Acrobats
hail from Beijing where the circus arts flowered in the late twentieth century.
All the attention and
flattery hasn't made them soft though. Our intrepid acrobats thrive on
reinterpreting tradition, using new materials like bungee ropes to shake up
circus standards. They love bringing their art across the globe, revelling in
the cheers of audiences who've never seen anything like it. Judging from kids'
enthusiastic response to their Tweedle Dum diabolo, Spider Pole, and Shaolin
Bungee, they aren't the only ones happy to be here.
